For immediate release. Sen. McCain Appears in Ad to Support N.C. Campaign Finance Reform The ad is part of the N.C. Center for Voter Education’s effort to promote the Public Campaign Fund. In the ad, McCain says: “We need to protect judicial elections from the threat of special interest influence if we are going to maintain the people’s confidence and trust in the administration of justice.” “Senator McCain is the pre-eminent national spokesman for campaign finance reform,” said Robert Morgan, the former U.S. senator who is president of the Center for Voter Education. “His endorsement of the North Carolina judicial campaign reform plan will bring in new supporters, and it highlights North Carolina as a national leader in campaign reform.” In his testimonial-style ad, Sen. McCain notes, “North Carolina has taken the national lead in upholding public trust and protecting its courts from perceived influence with an innovative campaign reform plan.” Sen. McCain is joined in his support of the program by the presidents of the six largest bar associations in the state. Recently, the six presidents distributed a joint letter to attorneys across North Carolina urging them to support the program with voluntary financial donations. The advertising is being paid for by the N.C. Center for Voter Education. The Center worked with the Reform Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based campaign reform organization of which Sen. McCain is Chair of the Advisory Committee, to design the advertising. More information about North Carolina’s judicial campaign reform program is available at a special website, www.ncjudges.org. ###
